Who can register im
domain names?
Although primarily formed for use by organisations and
individuals in the Isle of Man, the im domain is open to everyone who can
demonstrate a reasonable right to register such a name.
You may apply for domain names which are either:-
1. Your registered company name;
2. A recognised variation on your company name e.g.
initials;
3. Your recognised Trading Name(s);
4. Your organisation's/company's recognised Brand
Name(s);
However, ltd.co.im and plc.co.im are solely for companies registered
as such with the Isle of Man Companies Registry and a copy of the
company's Certificate of Incorporation must be submitted with your
application.
All domain name applications are subject to the approval
of the Naming Committee. Some names such as generic or misleading names or
those which are an internationally recognised trading name or trade mark
may also be refused at the discretion of the naming committee.
Function of the Naming Committee
Names are allocated on a first come, first served basis
and when you submit your request online, the naming committee is obliged
to reply within 3 working days. Approval or rejection of a name is based
on the facts known at the time by the naming committee.
Should the naming committee object to your domain you have the right to
appeal. You must submit an appeal by email together with further evidence
to substantiate your application. This will be resubmitted to the Naming
Committee for further consideration. If the appeal is rejected and this is
unacceptable to you a final ruling can be requested from the Isle of Man
Government▓s Information Services Division. The ruling from the Isle of
Man Government is final and binding
